KEVIN MAX TALKS NEW STUDIO ALBUM, CRASHING GATES AND PASSING KEEPERS

NEWS SOURCE: Kevin Max, a Jesusfreakhideout.com report
July 7, 2008

Kevin Max In December, singer, songwriter and poet Kevin Max released his first Gospel project, The Blood, to pay homage to his roots. The singer plans to get back to his rock/pop stylings with his next studio project which Max has already said is almost complete. Below, Kevin talks about his recent trip to Cornerstone Festival as well as gives a breakdown of the songs he hopes to see included on the album, entitled Crashing Gates And Passing Keepers...

"Last week was certainly good times. We started by going off to the wilderness of San Antonio with my good friend Greg Carnes as promoter and manager of the event. The event was a 4th of July party at The Cigar Club. Erick and I pulled out some new tunes from my upcoming new studio project "CRASHING GATES AND PASSING KEEPERS" AKA "Modern Monastics". The songs we played were on the soft side, seeing that the rockers would not be done justice acoustic. Not to get off track of my original thought process, but the new project is complete. I will post possible tracks with a minor synopsis at the end of this blahg. The show at Cigar Club was good fun. Chris Taylor and band opened with some great covers and new Taylor songs. We ended the evening in a very bright red, white and blue boa. Next morn, I flew back to Nashville and drove onward to Cornerstone. I was originally going to ride 'Elvira' up to the event, but rain in Kentucky kept her at bay. With a stop overnight on the 4th in St. Louis (I watched no fireworks but observed the movie Event Horizon on my laptop before crashing), wandered onto the Cornerstone grounds in the afternoon and was shown to the tent by Charlie Peacocks road manager 'Cicco'. Charlie and Jimmy were in good spirits, as was a very jolly Mike Rowe backstage with The Lost Dogs. Mike informed me that there was an ongoing thread on his page about me or something. I am sure they were trashing my dcTalk days or something. Those 'type' of online people with tons of time and a very narrow window for music always scare the crap out of me. Or is it that I would like to drive them all to a Kelly Clarkson show and tie them to the front monitor system......a very slow death. ;) All that to say, I have always been a big fan of Mike and the 77's. The only Christian rock band worth their salt. I am not sure what he thinks of me or my music, but I digress. The show went amazing. Charlie and Jimmy and I had rehearsed at my house only very briefly... but the end product was tight and experimental. Steve Hindalong from The Choir sat in on percussion, and to be honest, it really tied everything down...which was quite nice. Talked to Jonathan Brown from Furious UK label. We are still looking at a Fall tour in Europe. Will let you know more. Brazil is happening in September for any interested souls. CRASHING GATES AND PASSING KEEPERS is almost finished. The demos are halfway there. I go out to California in late August to spruce them up. Here is a rundown of the tracks as I see them going down. Not sure of the listing and if they will all make it......

1. Out of The Wild- rocker about the problems in America and the Apocalypse.
2. Stick To You- acoustic rocker building to the end, about loyalty in relationships.
3. The Saint Of Lonely Hearts- rockabilly type rocker, about hero worship and pioneering.
4. See- Eastern inspired/ acoustic-psycadelic trip out about Heaven.
5. Born To Rule The World- song about leadership both destructive and constructive.
6. Hell Hounds- dance rocker about the demise of youth culture
7. Woman, I'm Your Man- love ballad gone all art school.
8. Gull Lake Missionary Camp- honest skiffle song about my childhood summer crush.
9. The Blues Club- blues jam about bitterness and truth.
10.CHR 1- moody blues/ beatles piano type about the woes of Christian music subculture.
11.Grounded- somber ballad recreating the feeling of starting over again.
